Before digging into our list of 17 garage woodshop plans I wanted to cite my inspiration for this collection: a post at WoodNet called Garage woodshop questions. The whole thread is an awesome resource for anyone planning a new woodshop in their garage. Here are the tidbits that I thought offered the best advice…
6 Garage Woodshop Tips from Woodnet:
1) “Put everything on wheels.”
2) “One thing that I learned when I had my garage workshop is the value of organization and frequent cleaning. Another couple of hints: wire up some dedicated outlets for your TS and other power tools.”
3) “I would NOT put up a partition- You can back out a car and use that for outfeed space.”
4) “The dust issue: take the money you’d spend for a partition (plus a bunch more, no doubt) and buy a dust collector and air filtration unit. If you use it scrupulously and carefully you can minimize the dust problem.”
5) “mounting your dc (dust collection) on the wall and incorporating your router table into the tablesaw will save you a good deal of floor space. also overhead storage is your friend. if you can, place your jointer to the left of the tablesaw and if you can, elevate the saw so you can shove the jointer under the wing when not needed.”
6) Don’t advertise your tools to thieves – work with the garage doors closed.
There were a couple of funny comments there too that seemed to capture the spirit of garage woodworking:
1) “I thought of putting up the partition in my 3 car garage at one point. Now that I didn’t, luckily, my shop is taking up all three bays. Works much better that way.”
2) “Our house doesn’t have a garage; and it never will; it has a heated wood shop with an overhead door.”
Ok… enough with the great free advice, now for some free garage woodshop plans:

The layouts are great, and the tips for saving space come in very handy. My customers are usually confined to 10X10 to 14×10 size working areas so space saving ideas are really needed as they grow in tools and project sizes. Any overhead space for storage is always a plus.

The first item says to put everything on wheels and I agree. I have a large pedestal fan and its heavy at 67 pounds. I put it on some old castor wheels (non-locking).
Now it moves around on its own when the fan is on and is quite amusing. So I came up with a ‘parking brake’ for it. Anyway, being on wheels makes it so much easier to move around to reposition.
